Jeff Smith Rides High Line To Lake View Ultimate Win

Lake View, SC (August 12) - Kings Mountain, NC veteran Jeff Smith parlayed a late run in the outside groove to the Ultimate Super Late Model win Saturday night at Lake View Motor Speedway.
Local favorite Christian Thomas blistered the 4/10 mile speedway with a 16.172 second lap in qualifying to start from the pole for the 40 lap feature event. However, Ultimate points leader Anthony Sanders got the lead from the outside pole position. Thomas made a move to the inside in turn three to take the lead from Sanders on lap three. The first caution of the race would wave two laps later when Zach Cox spun in turn three.
With 15 lap to, Thomas' quest to sweep the Ultimate events at Lake View would end with 15 laps to go due to a mechanical issue, handing the lead to Sanders. Just two laps later, Smith found grip on the outside and would sweep pass Sanders into the lead. Like Thomas, Sanders night came to an end with a mechanical issue, while Smith led the rest of the way for the win. Cla Knight finished second in front of Willie Milliken, Steve Banal, and David Yandle. Rounding out the top ten were Johnny Pridgen, Daniel Adam, Mike Parker, David Baker, and Sanders.
Outside pole sitter Dustin Watkins got the advantage on the start and led flag to flag for the 602 Modified win. Last week's winner Colton Beasley had a top five run going until he spun entering turn one on lap 7 and collected Cameron Norris, IV, Jonathan Hucks, and Ricky Chavis, whose car ended up on its side. Following Watkins to the finish line were Mike Beasley, Donovan Jackson, David Victoria, and Ron Pope.
Austin Rodonis took the lead at the drop of the green flag and led all the way for his first NASCAR Advance Auto Parts Weekly Series Street Stock win of the year. Last week's winner Cameron Holloway that began with a spin in turn four on lap five that collected Terry Caples, Ryan Touchberry, and Dustin Baker. The bad luck continued for Holloway when he was collected after a spin on lap seven by Austin Herring in turn two. Following Rodonis to the checkered flag were Cameron Norris IV, Caples, Mike Coursey and Holloway.
Chucky Nicholson grabbed the lead at the start and led the entire distance for his second straight Fred's Tire & Auto Stock V8 win. Chip Fenhoff's night ended on lap two after slapping the front straightaway wall. Blaise Bryant finished second over Tom Lovett, Andrew Register, and four time Lake View champion, Jason Floyd.
Jason Brown led flag to flag to return to victory lane in the Morrisonbuilt Performance SCDRA Sport Compact division. Last week's winner Julio Cifuntes spun in turn two, ending his night on lap six. Following Brown to the checkered flag were his dad, Collin, Chelsey Richardson, Brian Mercer and Johnny Clark.
In Bell & Bell Vintage car action, Michael Fulwood was the Pro Modified winner, while Wes Horrell won in Modifed, Jamie Beal in Sportsman, Jay Smith in 6 Cylinder, and Pete Corey in Seniors.
The next event at Lake View Motor Speedway will be next Saturday night, August 19 and will feature the Blue Ridge Outlaw Late Models racing for $2500 to win. Joining them will be the American Racer 602 Modifieds competing for $1000 to win, along with the NASCAR Street Stocks, Stock V8, and Sport Compacts.
