Harrell Takes Win And Championship At Lake View
LAKE VIEW, SC (October 5) – Hope Mills, NC’s Shaun Harrell inherited the lead with 12 laps to go and never looked back to take the Steel Block Bandit win in the Larry Long Memorial Saturday night at Lake View Motor Speedway. With his win, Harrell also secured his first career Late Model championship at Lake View.
While Harrell started on the pole position, it was Michael Rouse who jumped out to the lead at the start of the race. The caution soon waved on lap two when Michael Batten and Russell Erwin spun exiting turn two. Derrick Rankin fell out of contention on lap 10 after spinning on the frontstretch and tagging the inside wall.
Rouse looked to have the car to beat, but a flat tire and subsequent contact from Dan Breuer with 12 laps to go knocked him out of the race. Harrell survived a tough challenge from Robbie Emory to take the win over Tyler Bare, Bradley McCaskill, and Dustin Mitchell. Rounding out the top 10 were Erwin, Dale Arnold, Breuer, David Baker, and Landen Zakalowski.
After dogging race long leader Tom Lovett throughout the race, Chucky Nicholson made a last lap to score the Fred’s Tire & Auto Stock V8 win. Scott Lewis survived separate incidents with Austin Hooks and Justin Parker to take the division championship. Following Nicholson and Lovett at the finish were Lewis, Derek Kemper, and Justin Parker.
Mike Bowman withstood a late-race challenge by Kyle Whitney for the Modified division win. Whitney finished second en route to winning the championship, while Cameron Norris, IV, Jeff Tiley, and Maxx Sumner rounded out the top five.
Jason Brown held off a challenge from his dad, Colin, for the Morrisonbuilt Performance SCDRA Sport Compact win. Rounding out the top five were Chelsey Richardson, Dylan Spivey, and Julio Cifuentes.
Lake View Motor Speedway will conclude the 2024 season with a big doubleheader weekend of racing November 15-16. The Northeast Sportsman Modified will take center stage in the Southern Assualt, paying $1000 to win Friday night and $1500 to win on Saturday. More divisions will be announced in the coming days.
