VERNON RUSSELL TOPS SUPER PRO FRIDAY NIGHT AT U.S. 13
By Charlie Brown, Delmar, DE (6/10/11) – It was the clash of the veterans as Vernon Russell of Dover, Del. faced Sterling Clough of Marion, Md. in the Super Pro final Fridy night at the U.S. 13 Dragway. At the end of 1320 feet Russell came away with the win. Eddie Baker of Salisbury, Md. took the final in Pro and defending champion, Charles Nock of Greenwood, Del. won in Pro Bike. Other winners on the day included: Rick Walker of Laurel, Del. in Street; Brandon Clark of Frankford, Del. in Bike Trophy; Alex Bradford of Newark, Md. in Jr. Dragster 1 and Paul Riddle, Jr. in Jr. Dragster 2.
Current point leader, Vernon Russell took on former ten time champion Sterling Clough in the Super Pro final. Clough had a -.009 red light foul to Russell’s .010 and Russell took the win with a run of 8.791/153.71 on an 8.85 dial. Semi-finalists were Dennis Long of Chesapeake City, Md. who lost to Clough and Keith Wildonger of Seaford, Del. who lost to Russell.
Eddie Baker faced Tim Foskey of Rhodesdale, Md. in the Pro final. Baker had the better reaction and drove to the win with a 10.917/115.56 on a 10:90 dial. Foskey ran a 9.581/134.48 on a 9.56 dial. Semi-finalists were Phillip Truitt of Parsonsburg, Md. who lost to Baker and Keith Mayers of Salisbury, Md. who lost to Foskey.
It was a battle of the champions as Charles Nock rode up against James Farmer of Denton, Md. It was a good run with Nock taking the victory with an 8.802/150.50 on an 8.78 dial. Farmer had a 9.242/138.88 on a 9.22 dial. Semi-finalists were Charles Cave, Jr. of Bridgeville, Del. who lost to Nock and John Bartkovich of Salisbury who lost to Farmer.
Rick Walker captured the Street final over Brad Williams of Seaford. Walker had the better reaction and ran a 12.270/110.03 on a 12.17 dial for the win. Williams had a 10.772/126.33 on a 10.63 dial. In Bike Trophy it was Brandon Clark over Don Lukens of Dover. Clark ran a 10.445/96.85 on a 10.00 dial while Lukens was off his dial with an 11.798/112.98 on a 10.99.
It was a night for “three-peats� in Jr. Dragster. In Jr. Dragster 1 Alex Bradford won his third in a row over Taylor Cox of Mardella Springs, Md. Cox had a red light foul and Bradford ran a 9.290/69.61 on a 9.26 dial. In Jr. Dragster 2 Paul Riddle, Jr. won his third consecutive final over Katelyn Muir of Delmar, Md. Muir had a red light foul and Riddle drove to the win with an 8.003/81.31 on a 7.99 dial.
This Wednesday night will be a Tune & Test Night. Gates open at 5 p.m. with tune and test running from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. Friday night will be the Summit Racing Series. Gates open at 3:30 p.m. with time runs at 4:30 p.m. and eliminations at approximately 8:30 p.m.
