MIKE HOOPER & JOHNNY ENNIS WIN BAD 8’S FRIDAY AT U.S. 13

By Charlie Brown, Delmar, DE (7/1/11) – Two veteran weekly racers came home with wins in the Bad 8 Friday night at the U.S. 13 Dragway. Mike Hooper of Hurlock, Md. took the Bad 8 Full Body win and Johnny Ennis of Pocomoke, Md. claimed the Bad 8 Open Wheel final. Other winners on the night included: Doug Thomas of Ellendale, Del. in Pro Bike; Brad Williams of Seaford, Del. in Street; Don Lukens of Dover, Del. in Bike Trophy; T.J. Williams of Fruitland, Md. in Jr. Dragster 1 and Herby Sullivan of Ridgely, Md. in Jr. Dragster 2. The Super Pro and Pro finals fell victim to the curfew.

 

Mike Hooper in his ’92 Firebird faced Vernon Russell of Dover in his ’81 Camaro in the Bad 8 Full Body final. Russell had issues with his electronics and Hooper blasted to the win with a 7.925/162.71 on a 7.89 dial for the win. Bill Cannon of Bishopville, Md. set Low E.T. and Top Speed in qualifying with a 7.696/184.88 in his ’79 Malibu. In the Bad 8 Full Body final it was Johnny Ennis up against David Tucker of Ellendale. Ennis had the better reaction light with a .010 and drove to the win with a 7.646/171.85 on a 7.60 dial. Tucker ran a 7.811/165.59 on a 7.78 dial. Low E.T. and Top Speed were set by Steven Boone of Ingleside, Md. with a 7.323/181.48.

 

Doug Thomas rode up against David Manuel of Pittsville, Md. in the Pro Bike final. Thomas picked up his first win of the season as Manuel had a red light foul and Thomas ran a 9.471/136.65 on a 9.34 dial. Semi-finalists were Charles Nock of Greenwood, Del. who lost to Manuel and John Ferguson, III of Cambridge, Md. who lost to Thomas.

 

Brad Williams faced his sister Chelsea Williams of Seaford in the Street final. Chelsea had the better reaction but Brad was on his dial-in and took the win with a 10.512/127.37 on a 10.51 dial. Chelsea had an 11.358/115.96 on an 11.29 dial. In Bike Trophy Don Lukens had the better reaction and took the win with an 11.706/118.49 on an 11.30 dial. Powell broke out with a 16.820/66.89 on a 16.88 dial.

 

In Jr. Dragster 1 T.J. Williams took the win over Ryan Jackson of Newark, Md. Williams had a .012 reaction and took the win with a 9.001/70.36 on an 8.97 dial. Jackson had an 8.914/71.89 on an 8.90 dial. Herby Sullivan and Paul Riddle, Jr. of Millsboro were paired in the Jr. Dragster 2 final. Riddle, Jr. broke out with a 7.937 on a 7.94 dial. Sullivan took the win with a 7.964/82.17 on a 7.94 dial.

 

Keith Mayers of Fruitland, Johnny Ennis and Vic Gordy of Ellendale were all still in the running for Super Pro when the curfew ended the night early. The same was true for Toya Peek of Houston, Del. and Rodger Vogel of Greensboro, Md. in Pro. The cars remaining in eliminations split the final rounds money.

 

This Friday night will be another exciting Summit E.T. Racing Series event. Gates open at 3:30 p.m. with time runs beginning at 4:30 p.m. and eliminations at approximately 8:30 p.m.
