DOUG FARACE HAS A SUPER DAY AT U.S. 13’s SUPER CHEVY SUNDAY
By Charlie Brown, Delmar, DE (9/11/11) – For Towson, Md.’s Doug Farace, the 48th Anniversary William J. Cathell Memorial Super Chevy Show, Shine & Drags Sunday at the U.S. 13 Dragway could not have been more super. Farace won the Jerry Ketterman’s Super Bad 8 Open Wheel final to start things off. Then he took the “Bad to the Bone Runoff� against the Bad 8 Full Body winner, Mike Hooper of Hurlock, Md. Farace finished out his super day by winning the Super Pro final that was worth $2500 taking his day’s earnings to $3700 in cash plus contingencies. Low E.T. and Top Speed in Open Wheel were set by Wayne Patton with a 6.895/198.23. In Bad 8 Full Body it was Chales Redd of Baltimore, Md. as top qualifier with a 7.407/187.07 in his ’69 Camaro.
A fantastic field of Super Pro cars was on hand for the Jerry Ketterman’s Super Bad 8. Farace faced Lewis Jones of Salisbury, Md. in the Open Wheel final. Farace took the win with a near perfect pass starting with a .001 reaction light and then running a 7.077/188.00 on a 7.07 dial. Jones broke outwith a 7.106/189.43 on a 7.11 dial. In the Full Body final it was Mike Hooper taking on Kevin Banksof Fort Washington, Md. Hooper was on his game taking the $1000 victory with an 8.006/162.83 on an 8.00 dial. Banks ran an 8.626/155.76 on an 8.58 dial.
It was a flat out run in the “Bad to the Bone Runoff� between the two Bad 8 winners. Farace and Hooper had identical .009 reaction lights and both cars broke out by running under their dial-ins but it was Farace who was out by less taking the $500 win with a 7.068/188.08. Hooper ended up a quarter-finalists with a 7.936/171.26 on a 7.95 dial.
Farace then advanced to the Super Pro final facing Ryan Huntington of Parsonsburg, Md. Huntington, who earned $1500 for runner-up, had a -.002 red light foul and the win went to Farace as he coasted through the finish line lights with a 7.605/125.12. Semi-finalists were Daniel Boone of Ingleside, Md. who lost to Farace and W.R. Ketterman of Salisbury, Md. who lost to Huntington. They earned $1000 each.
In the Pro final it was Ryan Groton of Salisbury taking on veteran Charles Dehaven of Salisbury. Dehaven had a .004 reaction but broke out with a 12.023 on a 12.04 dial. Groton was on his dial for the win with a 10.125/129.98 on a 10.12 dial. Semi-finalist was 2011 Pro point champion, Phillip Truitt who lost to Dehaven.
2011 Pro Bike point champion, James Farmer of Denton, Md. extended his super season winning another final this time against Brent English of Bloxom, Va. English had the better reaction but broke out with a 9.572 o a 9.69 dial. Farmer rode to the win with an 8,875/132.93 on an 8.79 dial. Semi-finalist was Derek Cesari of South Hampton, Pa. who lost to Farmer.
In Bike Trophy, Hamer Cooper of Dover, Del. rode to the win over Ralph Ridgeway of Dover. Cooper ran a 10.264/118.24 on a 10.20 dial. Ridgeway broke out with a 10.047 on a 10.15 dial.
In Street Eliminator it was Frank Parks of Denton, Md. over Wayne Phippin of Salisbury. Parks had a .009 reaction and took the win with an 11.865/109.47 on an 11.74 dial. Phippin ran a 12.281/110.85 on a 12.18 dial.
The Jr. Dragster Challenge winners received Walley trophies for the first time. In Jr. Dragster 1 it was Jacob Bowie of Greensboro, Md. going up against Michael Ennis of Delmar. Ennis left a little too early and fouled and Bowie took the win with an 8.924/70.97. In Jr. Dragster 2 it was Kody Mariner of Salisbury paired against Robynn Powell also of Salisbury. Mariner had a .003 reaction light and took the win with a 7.907/81.72 on a 7.90 dial. Powell had an 8.116/77.72 on an 8.06 dial.
This Sunday will be the “King of the Track� plus bracket racing in Super Pro, Pro, Pro Bike, Street, Bike Trophy, Jr. Dragster 1 and Jr. Dragster 2. Gates open at 10 a.m. with time runs at 11 a.m. and eliminations at approximately 2:30 p.m.
