STERLING CLOUGH ENDS DROUGHT WITH SUPER PRO WIN

 

 By Charlie Brown, Delmar, DE – Sterling Clough of Marion, Md. proved that he still has what it takes as he captured the Super Pro final Friday night at the U.S. 13 Dragway. Clough is a multi-time champion in the division and has been competing for four decades at the track. Roger Ridgeway, Jr. of Dover, Del. continued to rack up the wins in Pro while John Bartkovich of Salisbury, Md. rode to the win in Pro Bike. Other winners included: Josh Davis of Seaford, Del. in Street; Wayne Phippin of Delmar in Hot Rod; Nyck Shirkey of Ridgely, Md. in Jr. Dragster 1 and Cortney Cathell of Laurel, Del. in Jr. Dragster 2.

It was a pair of former champions meeting in the Super Pro final as Sterling Clough came up against Frank Lecates of Salisbury. Lecates fouled at the start and Clough made a full pass for the win with an 8.670/154.00 on an 8.64 dial-in. Semi-finalists were last week’s winner, Glenn Reese of New Castle, Del. who lost to Clough and Veanetta Ennis of Pocomoke, Md. who lost to Leccates.

It was an all-Ford final in Pro as Roger Ridgeway, Jr. in his ’78 Mustang faced Ben Garnett of Smyrna, Del. in his ’71 Maverick. Garnett had the better reaction but broke out with a 9.326/138.58 on a 9.34 dial. The win went to Ridgeway, Jr. who was out by less with a 9.073/147.49 on a 9.08 dial. Semi-finalists were Andy Davenport of Seaford who lost to Ridgeway, Jr. and David Hornsby of Delmar who lost to Garnett.

John Bartkovich rode his Honda into the final round of Pro Bike against Brandon Clark of Frankford, Del. on a GSXR 1000. Clark had the better reaction but broke out with a 9.273/144.02 on a 9.28 dial. Bartkovich took the win with a 13.806/95.33 on a 13.74 dial. Semi-finalists was Marquise Blake of Frankford who lost to Bartkovich while Clark had the bye run.

In the Street final it was Josh Davis over Gavin Truitt of Frankford. Truitt had a red light foul and Davis drove his ’77 Pacer to the win with a 12.349/106.58 on a 12.30 dial. In Hot Rod it was Wayne Phippin over Eddie Adkins of Eden, Md. Phippin ran an 11.632/106.44 on an 11.59 dial while Adkins was very late at the start then broke out with an 11.320/119.98 on an 11.34 dial.

In Jr. Dragster action Nyck Shirkey was paired against Nicholas Bowie of Greensboro, Md. in the Jr. 1 final. Shirkey was on his dial and took the win with an 8.956/71.19 on an 8.95 dial. Bowie broke out with an 11.938/52.90 on a 12.02 dial. Cortney Cathell ended Jacob Bowie’s streak in Jr. Dragster 2 defeating Hope Clarke of Parsonsburg, Md. in the final. Cathell had the better reaction and was on her dial with a 7.909/79.61 on a 7.90 dial. Clarke ran an 8.797/72.22 on an 8.77 dial.

This Wednesday night will be Tune & Test with gates opening at 5 p.m. Friday night will be another exciting Summit E.T. Racing Series event plus the Jr. Dragster Shoot Out. Gates open at 3: 30 p.m. with time runs at 4:30 p.m. and eliminations around 8 p.m.
