BRIAN KUNKOWSKI RACES TO 2ND SUPER PRO WIN IN A ROW SUNDAY AT U.S. 13

By Charlie Brown, Delmar, DE – Brian Kunkowski of Laurel, Del. was even quicker than last week as he captured his second Super Pro win in a row Sunday at the U.S. 13 Dragway. Wayne Redrow of New Castle, Del. took the win in Pro while Brian Wongus of Cambridge, Md. rode to the win in Pro Bike. Sara Davis of Laurel will represent the U.S. 13 Dragway in the High School division after winning the final round of High School Eliminator on Sunday. Other winners on the day included: Ryan Lecates of Salisbury, Md. in Street; Randy Chesnut of Delmar, Md. in Hot Rod; Caitlyn Hooper of Hurlock, Md. in Jr. Dragster 1 and Tyler Powell of Salisbury in Jr. Dragster 2.

 

Kunkowski rolled into the Super Pro final against Jamie Russell of Dover, Del. in his ’70 Nova. Russell had a good .017 reaction light but broke out running a 9.604/132.41 on a 9.63 dial-in. Kunkowski had a .016 reaction and unleashed a 7.080/193.67 on a 7.06 dial for the win. Semi-finalist was Don Teague of Newark, Del. who lost to Russell.

 

The Pro final matched Wayne Redrow in his Malibu against David Hornsby of Delmar in a ’70 Nova. Redrow had the better reaction and took the victory with a 10.229/124.42 on a 10.17 dial while Hornsby ran a 9.985/133.09 on a 9.95 dial. Semi-finalist was Ryan Groton of Laurel who lost to Hornsby.

 

The Pro Bike final pitted Brain Wongus on his Suzuki against Jordan Long of Selbyville, Del. on a Honda. Long had the better reaction time but broke out with an 11.171/123.22 on an 11.24 dial. Wongus posted the win with a 10.320/136.61 on a 10.20 dial.

 

The High School Eliminator final paired Sara Davis against Dylan Ross of Delmar, Md. Davis had the better reaction and drove to the win with a 12.923/99.72 on a 12.91 dial. Ross broke out with a 17.034/80.99 on a 17.09 dial.

 

Ryan Lecates defeated Ronn Carey of Dagsboro, Del. in the Street Eliminator final. Carey had a red light foul and Lecates got the win with an 11.500/117.61 on an 11.55 dial.

 

In Hot Rod it was Randy Chestnut over Jose Rivera of Mardela Springs, Md. Rivera was way under his dial running a 17.486/79.95 on a 17.60 dial. Chestnut was under by less in the double break out win with a 12.223/110.91 on a 12.25 dial.

 

In the Jr. Dragster 1 final, Caitlyn Hooper took advantage of a red light foul by her sister, Brittany Hooper to take the win. Caitlyn ran an 11.948/56.79 on an 11.90 dial while Brittany had a -.039 red light. In Jr. Dragster 2 it was Tyler Powell in a tight heads-up run over Jerel Davis of Salisbury. Powell ran a 7.923/82.32 on a 7.90 dial while Davis had a 7.932/81.81 on a 7.90.

 

This Sunday, Sept. 14^th should draw a lot of outside racers as it will be the final bracket show before the NHRA Northeast Division 1 Bracket finals on Sept. 17^th through the 20^th. Gates open at 10 a.m. with time runs at 11 a.m. and eliminations around 2:30 p.m.
