W.R. KETTERMAN SWEEPS BAD 8 OPEN WHEEL & TOP ELIMINATOR SUNDAY AT U.S. 13

By Charlie Brown, Delmar, DE – Sunday got off to a good start for W.R. Ketterman of Salisbury, Md. as he captured the Bad 8 Open Wheel final. Then they only got better as he advanced through the Top Eliminator ranks and defeated Bill Blank, Jr. in the final to end a perfect day.

 

Ketterman faced 2014 champion, Bobby Insley in the Bad 8 Open Wheel final. Ketterman’s .005 reaction sealed the win at the starting line as he ran a 7.263/175.43 on a 7.23 dial. Insley had a .057 reaction and laid down a good run with a 7.611/175.71 on a 7.60 dial. In the Bad 8 Full Body final it was David Lowe in his ’01 Pontiac matched with Rex Lilley in his ’88 Mustang. The two were almost even off the line but Lilley broke out running an 8.629/155.52 on a 8.63 dial. Lowe got the win with an 8.864/149.92 on an 8.86 dial.

 

Ketterman advanced to the Top Eliminator final against Bill Blank, Jr. in his ’69 Camaro. Blank had the slightly better reaction but Ketterman nipped him at the finish line with a 7.233/181.23 on a 7.22 dial while Blank ran an 8.920/151.08 on an 8.89. Semi-finalists were Frank Lecates who lost to Ketterman and Christian Walston who lost to Blank.

 

Humphrey Maddox, Jr. in his Chevy S-10 faced Glen Isom in his Blazer in the Pro final. Maddox took the double break out win with a 10.574/126.77 on a 10.58 dial while Isom ran a 9.847/133.05 on a 9.87 dial. Semi-finalists were Vincent Wade who lost to Isom and Jeremy Stoker who lost to Maddox.

 

It was motorcycle vs. snow mobile in the Pro Bike final. D.J. Lockwood on his ’12 Ninja faced Roland Powell, Jr. on his ’98 Ski Doo. Lockwood had the better reaction and took the win with an 8.734/155.30 on an 8.61 dial while Powell rode to a 10.474/103.25 on a 10.25 dial. Semi-finalist was John Ferguson who lost to Lockwood while Powell had the bye.

 

It was also Crazy 8 index racing for motorcycles on Sunday. Scott Smith on his Kawasaki defeated Stewart Northan on a Hayabusa in the final. Smith ran a 9.220/152.02 on the 8.88 index while Northan had a 9.516/122.63.

 

Ryan Groton in his ’78 Camaro was paired against John Bartkovich in a ’38 Chevy in the Street final. Bartkovich was late at the start and Groton took the win with a 12.210/85.22 on a 12.00 dial. Bartkovich ran a 13.113/94.38 on a 12.90 dial. Semi-finalist was Josh Davis who lost to Bartkovich.

 

In Hot Rod it was Jay Parrott in his ’59 Corvette over Ryan Lecates in his ’88 Blazer. Parrott ran a 14.393/91.06 on a 14.37 while Lecates had an 11.616/106.95 on an 11.45. Semi-finalist was Dennis Davis who lost to Parrott.

 

James Paylor got into the win column in Jr. Dragster 1. Paylor had the better start against Brett Holston and drove to the win with an 8.950/73.09 on an 8.90 dial while Holston broke out with an 8.862/73.43 on an 8.96 dial. In Jr. Dragster 2, Kody Mariner left too early and fouled and Jacob Bowie posted his eighth win of the season running a 7.930/82.25 on a 7.95 dial. It was Jr. Dragster Reunion day in paired in the final were Brooke Dehaven and Amy Jo Jackson. Jackson left early and fouled and Dehaven took the win with an 8.946/72.22 on an 8.94 dial. Semi-finalists were Vic Gordy who lost to Jackson and Laura Landry who lost to Dehaven.

 

This coming weekend the U.S. 13 Dragway’s best will head to Pittsburg, Pa. for the IHRA Bracket Finals. There will be no racing at the dragway on Sunday.
