Two IHRA Sportsman Spectacular presented by Moser Engineering Events Coming Up on Racing’s Biggest Weekend

HOUSE SPRINGS, MO — It’s the biggest racing weekend of the year and the International Hot Rod Association is gearing up for it to be spectacular.

That’s because there are two IHRA Sportsman Spectacular presented by Moser Engineering events on Saturday. Races are to be held at Music City Raceway in suburban Nashville and Dragway 42 in West Salem, Ohio. While there are iconic events like the Indianapolis 500, NASCAR’s Coca-Cola 600 and the Formula One Monaco Grand Prix held this wekeend, drag racers can look to IHRA Summit SuperSeries races and other big events at their local tracks.

Let's not forget the reason we celebrate Memorial Day weekend and remember those who paid the ultimate sacrifice so we can enjoy these great motorsports events.

As for the IHRA Sportsman Spectaculars, these venues are no strangers to holding big drag racing events. Racers in Box, No Box, Sportsman, Motorcycle and Junior Dragster will compete for prestigious IHRA Ironman trophies and the very popular oversized championship checks. IHRA members will also be in the running for limited-edition Sportsman Spectacular commemorative medals.

There are bigger opportunities as racers can gain entry to the IHRA Summit SuperSeries World Finals presented by Strange Engineering by winning the main event in one of the aforementioned classes in conjunction with entering at least two other IHRA races (an IHRA-member track Summit SuperSeries team race or Sportsman Spectacular) before the IHRA Summit SuperSeries World Finals. Current IHRA membership is required.

Each event is tailored to the host track’s racing programs with a $5,000-to-win top prize and $100 entry fee in the Super Pro (Box) class at Music City. The Pro (No Box) class features $1,000 to the winner and a $40 entry. It’s $300 for the Sportsman winner with a $30 entry fee. Pro Bike pays $500 to the winner and $50 to enter. The Junior Dragster class pays back 100 percent of entry with the winner to get an IHRA Ironman and the runner-up to take home an IHRA plaque.

Shelby Thurman (Super Pro), Brady Mase (Pro), Jordan Echols (Sportsman), Billy Warren Jr. (Motorcycle) and Bailey Benda (Junior Dragster) won the IHRA Sportsman Spectacular presented by Moser races at Music City Raceway in 2023.

Spectator admission is $15 with kids 12-under admitted free. Gates open at 2 p.m. with time runs to follow. Eliminations begin at 6 p.m. Click here for the Music City Raceway webpage.

Keith Gerlach (Top), Bobby Gill (Mod), AJ Buchanan (Sportsman), Rick Poole (Motorcycle) and Madi Clark (Junior Dragster) earned victories at Dragway 42 in 2023.

Drivers in the Top ET class will compete for a $5,000 winner’s purse and $1,000 for runner-up. The payout is based on 100 entries first round with a $100 entry fee. The Mod (No Box) class pays $3,000-to-win and $500 for runner-up. It is based on 80 entries first round with a $75 entry fee. Payouts for Sportsman and Bike / Sled are $500 to win based on 20 first-round entries.

There are 7.90, 8.90 and 11.90 Junior Dragster classes. There will be a runoff of the winners to determine the overall champion and who earns the trip to the IHRA Summit SuperSeries World Finals.

Gates open at 7:30 a.m. with time trials at 9 a.m. and eliminations to follow. Spectator tickets are $20 for adults, $5 for kids 6-12 and those 5-under admitted free. Click here to check out the Dragway 42 Facebook page to check out this and other upcoming events.
