Swindell and Thone Motorsports Kicking Off Season This Weekend in Texas With World of Outlaws
Inside Line Promotions – GERMANTOWN, Tenn. (April 8, 2019) – It’s been a busy offseason for Sammy Swindell, who built two new race cars for Thone Motorsports.
The team is slated to kick off its 2019 campaign this Friday and Saturday at Devil’s Bowl Speedway in Mesquite, Texas, during the Texas Outlaw Nationals with the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series.
“We built two new Maxim cars and made some changes with the trailer with how things are laid out,” Swindell said. “It was putting a whole lot of stuff together to be organized the way I’ve done it in the past.
“It’s pretty much the same car I ran for the Zimbardi’s in New York. At the All Star shows we didn’t finish outside the top three and won about half the races I’ve run in so I have an idea where to start. It’s just like the car Kevin (Swindell) runs so he can give me some feedback, too, and I can help him so it’ll make it better for both of us.”
Swindell noted that the team anticipates a schedule of 40-to-50 races – all in the 410ci winged sprint car division – beginning this weekend at the half-mile Texas oval. Swindell has a dozen World of Outlaws wins at the track, where he’s been victorious in the 1970s, 1980s, 1990s, 2000s and 2010s.
“It definitely makes it easier to start there,” he said. “I’ve got a lot of laps there and won a lot of races there in the 360 and the 410 stuff. There’s a couple of things that make the track different. It’s more like a D shape than an oval. Some people get it and some people don’t. It’s unique in itself. Having the experience and laps will definitely help.”
