Inside Line Promotions – LEXINGTON, Tenn. (May 28, 2019) – Sammy Swindell is bound for the $100,000-to-win Sprint Car World Championship.

Swindell and Thone Motorsports will tackle the marquee event this Thursday through Saturday at Mansfield Motor Speedway in Mansfield, Ohio.

“We haven’t got to run very much this year and that’s our biggest handicap,” he said. “We’ve got some good cars and good motors. We have to hit everything right. There’s been times we’re right on pace. I expect to have a good run. Sometimes it’s just whatever that number they give you can make or break your night, but I think we can overcome most anything right now.”

Swindell drove for A.G. Rains during the first four USCS Series Speedweek shows last weekend, earning a pair of podium finishes and a trio of top fives in the first three races before he was involved in a night-ending crash on Monday.

“We had a decent car,” he said. “The first two nights and probably the third night we were one of the fastest.”

Swindell advanced from third to second in a heat race and from ninth to fourth in the A Main last Friday at Greenville Speedway in Greenville, Miss. He finished second in the dash and won a heat race before charging from 11th to third in the A Main the following night at Riverside International Speedway in West Memphis, Ark. Swindell won the dash, ended second in a heat race and powered from seventh to third on Sunday at Old No. 1 Speedway in Harrisburg, Ark.

“I was faster on the long run, but about the time we were there to do something they had a red,” he said. “I wouldn’t be as good for the first lap, then for three laps or so we were even and then six laps or so in we were better.

“There’s a big discrepancy in their cars with that series and you get held up. You can get stuck behind someone for 15 laps and then you’ve only got 10 or 15 laps to actually race. The hard part is you can have one of the best cars and get stuck in their format. On Saturday I won my heat and started 11th in the feature. I was stuck behind someone for half the race and he was wide enough to just block the lane. Once I got by him the next car was a straightaway ahead and I reeled him in in about four laps, but the race goes fast if you don’t get right through there.”

The weekend ended early for Swindell on Monday at Lexington 104 Speedway, where a wreck at start of dash ended the night early.
