Inside Line Promotions – NEW RICHMOND, Wis. (Sept. 14, 2016) – Jamie Ball scored a pair of top-10 finishes last weekend while competing with the Upper Midwest Sprint Car Series.
The White Lightning Motorsports driver opened the doubleheader on Friday at Princeton Speedway in Princeton, Minn., by placing sixth in a heat race and seventh in the challenge race to start the main event on the inside of the eighth row.
“The track had slicked off and the cushion was right on the top lip of the track,” he said. “We setup to run the bottom and I was able to get up to ninth with only one caution. Those quarter-mile tracks are tricky. It was fun to get some laps on something we aren’t accustomed to. Seat time and experience is what we’re after.”
Ball maneuvered from 15th to ninth place to garner his 20th top 10 of the season.
The weekend concluded on Saturday at Cedar Lake Speedway, where Ball finished fifth in a heat race before winning a qualifier to start the feature on the outside of the fourth row.
“Being able to win the challenge race gave us some confidence going into the main event,” he said. “I had a great car all race long. I was up to sixth and back to about 10th before finishing seventh. I made some great moves yet bad decisions that cost us a few spots. We were definitely capable of a top five. We just lacked short track experience. I had fun with the UMSS all weekend. They’re a great group of guys and we can’t wait to race with them next year.”
Ball ended with a seventh-place finish.
Teammate Devin Kline also competed at both tracks. However, he was racing with a 305ci engine during the 360ci doubleheader.
“It was an eye-opening experience to go to a different track than Knoxville,” he said. “It took me a while to adjust.”
Kline finished fifth in a heat race and eighth in a challenge race at Princeton Speedway before he maneuvered from 17th to 11th in the main event.
“Finally by the end of the night I settled down a little and was able to charge from 17th to 11th,” he said. “That was a pretty good showing. The next night (at Cedar Lake Speedway) I ended up breaking a rear end in the qualifier race and ended up calling that a night.
“It was a great experience and I hope to do more of it in the future. It will help me become a better driver. I’m going to call it a year and try to build up for next year.”
Ball will return to action this Saturday at 34 Raceway in West Burlington, Iowa, with the Sprint Invaders.
