Herring Finishes Stellar Weekend with Podium Finish

After a rare caution-filled A-Main at Southern Oklahoma Speedway for the SST the previous evening, the series was able to redeem their performance by producing a caution-free 20 lap A-Main at 281 Speedway won by Jerry Hammock.

For the SCP Polymers Racing team, the night belonged to Mike Herring. After moving up from 4th to win his heat race, Mike was able to participate in a special 'Dash 4 Cash' that included five drivers in remembrance of the five Marines that recently lost their lives in Chattanooga, TN. Although Mike did not win, he was able to recognize a former military service member by racing in his honor and presenting him with a gift and an American flag.

For the A-Main feature event, Mike was slotted in the 8th starting position. However, at the drop of the green flag, he did not stay there long. Lined up along the outside in rows two, three, and four, Jerry Hammock, Mike Herring, and Reagan Reed became a locomotive on that outside line by moving up to the Top-3 respectively. At this point, Jerry would check-out from the field while lapping a majority of the other drivers. Meanwhile, Mike had his hands full while trying to keep ‘Dash 4 Cash’ winner Reagan in his rearview mirror. Mike was able to prevail and finish 2nd, which is his first podium finish and second Top-5 in as many nights. Already in the Top-5 in points coming into the weekend, Mike is now a legitimate contender for a championship.

SCP Polymers Racing Team will next race on August 7th in Boyd, TX.
