Flat Tire Takes Air Out of Herring’s Night
During a 23 car A-Main feature at Southern Oklahoma Speedway, the race was for second place after Jerry Hammock checked out from the competition for a dominating win. Jerry was in control all evening as he once again swept his Heat, Dash 4 Cash, and A-Main feature. Unfortunately SCP Polymers driver Mike Herring was in position for another podium finish that would keep him in the hunt for a points championship until a flat tire during the final restart relegated him back to 9th position. Instead of gaining two points on leader Dustin Woods, Mike now garners a 20 point deficit going into the final race of the year. In order for Mike to win the Sprint Series of Texas championship at Mountain Creek Speedway on September 18th, he will have to finish 21 spots ahead of Dustin Woods and 10 spots ahead of Jerry Hammock. Dustin’s odds of winning the championship look almost insurmountable at the moment. Jerry Hammock will have to beat Dustin Woods by 12 positions while also starting from the back of the field since he won this most recent feature. Therefore if Dustin finishes at least 11th or better at Mountain Creek Speedway, he will become the 2015 Champion. Other SCP Polymers drivers Bud Hanna and Josh Hanna both finished where they took their initial green flag at 13th and 18th positions respectively.
Josh Hanna’s next race will be at Gator Motorplex on September 5th in Willis, TX and the entire team will be at the concluding race of the season at Mountain Creek Speedway on September 18th.
