Brandon Hahn Takes Lessons Out of Knoxville Nationals, Front Row Challenge

Inside Line Promotions – OSKALOOSA, Iowa (Aug. 6, 2013) – The last two tracks Brandon Hahn has competed on have easily been the two biggest he’s ever seen.

“I would summarize it as a big learning curve,” he said of the last week. “These big half miles are the biggest race tracks I’ve ever been on. You’ve got to learn to drive a straight race car and keep it smooth. That’s when you can start getting fast and start opening your line a little bit.”

Hahn tackled his first-ever 360 Knoxville Nationals with a preliminary night of the 23rd edition of the Arnold Motor Supply event on Friday and it didn’t get off to a quick start.

“We broke a rocker arm on our motor during hot laps,” he said. “We got that fixed in time for qualifying. I’ve never qualified before so that was a new experience for me. It was not the best experience, but it was a learning one.”

Hahn timed in 55th quickest and missed a spot in a heat race by five qualifying spots. It put him in the C Main, which he started 15th. Hahn advanced to 11th to end his night and he scratched from Saturday’s finale because of engine issues.

“It’s just learning up here,” he said. “You’re not going to come to Knoxville two times and make the feature for the 360 Nationals. You just need to get more laps. It’s a totally different animal up here.”

Down to the final engine of this trip, Hahn headed to Southern Iowa Speedway on Monday for the Front Row Challenge with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour. He started last – eighth – in his heat race, but was doomed from the start.

“When they pushed me off at first I felt something different on the car,” he said. “I thought my left rear tire was loose. As soon as they pushed me off and I got on the gas it was a massive vibration. I couldn’t even see going down the front straightaway so I pulled in and the u-joint was coming apart.”

Hahn’s night ended after a couple of laps in his heat race with the mechanical issue.

After taking this weekend off, he is scheduled to return on Friday, Aug. 16, at Mid-America Speedway in South Coffeyville, Okla., with the Lucas Oil ASCS National Tour.
