Texas Heat at Kennedale Speedway Park

Just an hour west of RPM Speedway resides the larger ¼ mile track of Kennedale Speedway, serving as the host for the second day of the POWRi West midget series Texas Two Step. 20 midgets survived night 1 competition to make the short trip for another hot night of competition.

With the positive results of Friday night, Fischer Racing had high hopes for Saturday with a great starting spot in Heat 1. Taking the green flag from the 3rd position, it became evident right away that we were facing another battery issue. Having difficulty getting a full charge, the Flying Tee Golf #24 hit the track with a partial charge in hopes it would be enough to complete 8 laps. Unfortunately, the opening lap revealed the familiar popping sound and Hunter pulled the car to the infield right away. With a 20 car field, we were assured a starting position in the A feature, so no use harming anything else on the car.

Taking time between the other classes running that night, the battery was up to "100%" by the time the A feature was called to the staging area. Hopeful to improve upon the previous night, we started on the back row in P20. The battery held up for a good 5-10 laps, allowing Hunter to make it up to 15th before the first yellow flag. After the restart, the car began to misfire again on the straights and hampering his ability to make it further in field. With the slick track, all the power wasn’t needed and Hunter was able to stay on the lead lap, finishing in 14th for the night. I know batteries don’t like being knocked around or the heat, so the team will attempt to find a better mounting position to lessen the chance of failure.

The next pair of races will be in Grain Valley, MO where the POWRi West series joins the POWRi National series over the 7/13-7/14 weekend for the Thunder in the Valley mid-season championships. Thank you to our sponsors Flying Tee Golf on the Riverwalk in Jenks, B&C Custom Woodworks, FabTech, and Bolted Spine Designs for their continued support.
