Bright Powers to Micro Sprint Triumph in New Ride at Bridgeport Speedway

Inside Line Promotions – SWEDESBORO, N.J. (Aug. 10, 2014) – Alex Bright immediately capitalized on his new partnership with Greg Stevens.

Bright picked up his eighth overall victory of the season on Sunday when he led all 25 laps of the $1,200-to-win main event at Bridgeport Speedway in only his second time in Stevens’ micro sprint.

“It actually feels like a while since my last one,” Bright said. “To get a win, especially for Greg Stevens in my second time in the car, was pretty awesome. I can’t thank him enough for letting me drive. It was a big micro race as well.”

With more than 40 drivers on hand, Bright opened the night by charging from fifth place to the lead on the opening lap of his heat race.

“On the first corner I took the lead from fifth,” he said. “After that I held on for two or three laps and then one of the other cars passed me for the lead. I held on to second for the rest of the race.”

His runner-up finish locked Bright into the feature redraw, where he pulled the No. 2 to line up on the outside of the front row for the main event.

“We must have had five or six cautions in the first three laps,” he said. “Two or three times before the last caution Timmy Buckwalter went to the low line and I was on the high side. He was dead even with me and then a caution would come out. One restart he actually passed me and I went to the bottom and we were dead even coming off turn four and a caution came out.”

Bright took the top spot when it counted and despite a hiccup when he first entered traffic, he cruised to the triumph.

“I got through lapped traffic pretty easily,” he said. “The first lapped car I got to kind of held me up because it was the last six cars racing together. But that was the only close call.”

Bright made his debut in Stevens’ micro sprint last Wednesday at Action Track USA in Kutztown, Pa. After winning the heat race from the pole position, Bright started the main event 11th.

“I got up to sixth by Lap 2 or 3 and then it was single file, follow the leader for the rest of the race,” he said.

Bright ended with a sixth-place result.

He will drive for Stevens this Wednesday and Sunday at Action Track USA. Bright will also race his midget on Friday at Williams Grove Speedway in Mechanicsburg, Pa., and on Saturday at Lincoln Speedway in Abbottstown, Pa., with the ARDC Midgets.
