Corey finishes in top ten at the CLS opener!
3/8/14 - It was a great night at the Imperial Valley Fairgrounds as the California Lightning Sprints held their season opener in front of a sold out crowd. This would be the first CLS race for rookies Corey Hoover, Cori Andrews, and Jeremy Queener, who will all be battling for Rookie of the Year in 2014.
Things got off to a good start as Corey laid down a solid qualifying time despite being on the rev limiter for most of the lap. After making a gear change, Corey was able pass a couple of cars in the heat race and it was on to the 20 lap final.
Despite a good qualifying effort and heat race, all rookies must start in the rear of the field per CLS rules. Corey would start ahead of rookies Andrews and Queener based on heat race finish. As the green flag dropped the action picked up and cars were battling for position on the 1/4 mile track. Corey battled a tight race car all night but was able to make a few passes and end up in the top ten.
