Hoover with another 2nd place finish at Perris
On Track Inc. - CORONA, Calif. (May 27, 2014) – The California Lightning Sprints series returned to Perris on May 24th for the annual "Salute to Indy" race on the full half mile track. This is the 8th race in the series and rookie Corey Hoover was looking for redemption after contact ended his night early at the previous race in Bakersfield.
Things were looking good in qualifying as Hoover laid down the second fastest time, just a click behind veteran Damon Arnett. This would line him up 5th in his heat race with the invert. At the green Hoover passed the 51 car and set his sites on the 2 car which was being driven by former series champion Shane Rosson. The two battled side by side for the entire race and at the checkers it was Rosson who would take the 3rd spot with Hoover in 4th.
After a gear change it was time for the 20 lap main. Hoover would line up in the 7th starting spot and after the green would battle the 2 car of Rosson again. The 15 year old was able to make a quick pass and continued to gain a position every lap for the first 4 laps which put him in 3rd behind the 22 car of 17 year old Cori Andrews. As they went through turn 2 on lap 8, leader Jeff Dyer's car sputtered and pulled to the inside. Caution flew for Dyer who was done for the night. At the restart it was Andrews, Hoover, and Arnett battling for the top three. Andrews was able to motor away and take the win with Hoover claiming another podium finish. It was a great night of racing and moved the rookie up to 4th in the championship points and he continues to lead the Rookie of the Year battle.
