Trio of podium finishes at Route 66 Motor Speedway
Friday night found Rodney Sanders in action at Route 66 Motor Speedway (Amarillo, Tex.) pulling double duty in the Modified and Limited Modified ranks for the Mark Rogers/Butch Reid Jr. Memorial. Competing in two rounds of heat races in the No. 02 Limited Modified, Sanders dropped five spots in his first round to finish fifth. Passing six cars in his second heat, Rodney scored a fifth place finish, transferring him into the C-Main on Saturday.
In his ARMI Contractors No. 20 USRA Modified, Rodney secured his spot into the opening night feature with a heat race victory. Starting in sixth, Sanders clawed forward three spots to place third behind Jake Gallardo and Phillip Houston with Gene Weaver and A.J. Vasquez rounding out the Top-5.
After improving six spots in his C-Main on Saturday to finish second behind Ty Weatherbee, Sanders advanced through the field 14 spots in his B-Main to pick up the win. Starting the $4,000-to-win A-Main in 13th, Rodney passed 11 cars in the 50-lapper to come home second behind Kale Westover with Cory Williams, Robby Carter, and Dustin Robinson trailing them to the checkers. In his Modified, Rodney started the night off with a heat race victory, which positioned him sixth on the starting grid for the finale. With $1,300 on the line, Sanders improved four spots to register a runner-up finish behind Nathan Smith with Vince Lucas, Matt Newkirk, and Fito Gallardo completing the Top-5 finishers.
