Taylor sweeps Wimp Reed Spring Nationals
CAVE CITY, Ark. (3/30/24) - Jeff Taylor picked up his first two victories of 2024 on back-to-back nights over the weekend as he took a pair of IMCA Modified wins at Batesville Motor Speedway aboard his aboard his Heat Transfer Solutions No. 5 Wehrs Machine/ Skyway Auto Group / NewVisionCustomShirts.com / Shaw Race Cars IMCA Modified.
Friday saw the Cave City, Arkansas, pilot win by nearly two seconds but Saturday was a little more contested as he had to hold off former NASCAR veteran Ken Schrader, who charged from 25th-to-2nd.
"Man, I hate the way that Friday ended but anytime I can pick up a win over Ken, I am very proud of that." Taylor said.
On Friday, Taylor was one of 26 Modified drivers at the 3/8-mile track in Locust Grove, Arkansas, seeking a $1,500 winner’s check. He drove from sixth to second in his heat race and began the 31-lap A-Main from the seventh position. Taylor grabbed the second spot early in the race and took the lead in the first turn on the last lap, ultimately besting runner-up Brandon Smith by 1.899 seconds. Roger Witt rounded out the podium, with Ken Schrader coming home fourth and Spencer Hartwick finishing fifth.
The next night, the Modified field increased to 27 competitors with another $1,500 on the line. Taylor moved from fifth to first in his heat, positioning him fourth to start the feature. He took the lead on the 23rd circuit of the 31-lapper and showed the way for the rest of the event, taking the checkered flag 1.396 seconds in front of Schrader. Smith finished third, while Ashton Wilkey and Tim Hogan claimed the fourth and fifth spots, respectively.
