Driver Information
My name is Matthew Crowell. I grew up in a small town in south central Kansas and went to high school in Goddard, KS graduating top of my class as a Kansas Honors Scholar. I pursued my love of designing and building things when I went on to college and received my Bachelor's in Engineering Technology Management from Wichita State University. I now work as a Design Engineer for the leading manufacturer of small aircraft Textron Aviation.
In grade school I tried many sports from cross country, track, football, and even baseball. Growing up I was never very athletic and struggled to stay off the bench in these sports. My father found out about go-kart racing through friends at work and from there my life changed forever. It became a family affair from the start. This sport not only was something I excelled in on the track but off the track from designing and building racecars to building stronger relationships with family and friends it was something that took a team to be fast and mine was always my family. Crowell Brothers Racing was formed in 2001 with me and my brother Jacob Crowell we raced go-karts mostly in southern Kansas where we won over 45 races, 4 track championships, and one regional championship. In 2006 I advanced to the youth hornet division at 81 Speedway and in my first and only year in the division I won 10 of the 17 races that took place. In 2008 I moved into the sanctioning body IMCA (International Motor Contest Association) the oldest auto racing sanctioning body in the US, where I started racing their Hobby Stock division. This allowed me to travel on a national level. My first year in the Hobby Stocks I won the Northern Region Rookie of the Year and finished 2nd in Kansas State points. I went on to win several more races and championships in the Hobby Stocks before moving to the SportMods class in 2010.
Career Highlights
My first year in the IMCA SportMods I won 14 races, 5 top 5s, and 15 top 10s. I won one track championship and the Kansas State Championship title. I was recognized at the IMCA National Banquet in Lincoln, Nebraska for my awards. I would go on to win several more races and championships and still currently race in the division. In 2015 our race team made a huge leap into our program and decided to design and build our own IMCA SportMods we called our newly designed chassis Homemade Chassis by CBR. What sets us apart from almost every other race team in the industry is everything on our cars was either built in our own backyard or by friends that live within 15 miles from us. Our chassis, body's, rearends and transmissions are built in house by Homemade Chassis. Our motors are built by a lifelong family friend Randy's Performance Machine and shocks by a close neighbor BDR racing shocks.
