Jon Mitchell is runner-up with CCSDS at Batesville, makes Topless 100 start
Locust Grove, Arkansas’ Batesville Motor Speedway hosted three consecutive days of topless Dirt Late Model action from Thursday through Saturday, and Jon Mitchell’s Parker Truck Repair No. 5 ride was a part of them all.
On Thursday evening, the COMP Cams Super Dirt Series (CCSDS) completed the postponed Hillbilly 40 on the 3/8-mile oval. Mitchell had earned the 11th-place starting position out of 34 entrants when the rains came in late July. He charged forward in the 40-lap, $5,000-to-win feature race, finishing in the runner-up spot 1.460 seconds behind winner Scott Crigler. Billy Moyer Sr., BJ Robinson and Logan Martin completed the top five.
The next night, attention shifted to the preliminary night of the crown-jewel 31st annual COMP Cams Topless 100 co-sanctioned by the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series (LOLMDS) and CCSDS. Sixty-four cars entered the event.
Mitchell finished fourth in his heat race and sixth in his B-Main on Friday, precluding him from advancing to the evening’s 30-lap $5,000-to-win prelim feature.
In Saturday's finale, a $50,000 first-place payday was on the line. With the top 16 in points from the previous evening already locked in, Mitchel finished sixth in one of two B-Mains used to set the remainder of the lineup for the 100-lap main event. Although he didn’t transfer on track, Mitchell used a CCSDS emergency provisional to start 29th in the Topless 100. He came home in the same position.
