Mitchell picks up trio of top-10 finishes during CCSDS Labor Day weekend tripleheader
Jon Mitchell took on three consecutive days of racing with the COMP Cams Super Dirt Series (CCSDS) over Labor Day weekend, turning in impressive results at each of the three tracks on the schedule.
The action kicked off on Friday when Mitchell’s W&W Timber No. 5 car was one of 21 CCSDS Super Late Models at the quarter-mile Super Bee Speedway (Chatham, Louisiana). Mitchell turned in a runner-up finish in his heat race and started fourth in the 40-lap, $5,000-to-win A-Main. He ran up front throughout the race and came home in second place, trailing Billy Moyer Jr. under the checkered flag by 3.415 seconds. Jamie Buford completed the podium, with Brian Rickman finishing fourth and BJ Robinson taking the fifth spot.
On Saturday, 25 CCSDS competitors were in the Magnolia State for the $5,000-to-win Jackson All-American 60 at Jackson Motor Speedway (Byram, Mississippi). Mitchell was strong again on the 1/3-mile track, using a fifth-to-second run in his heat to start the 60-lap feature from the inside of the third row. He ran inside the top five in the race’s early stages before turning in an eighth-place result.
The weekend finale took place at the “Black Ice” of Magnolia Motor Speedway (Columbus, MS), which attracted 31 CCSDS entrants looking for for the evening’s $5,000 top prize. Mitchell finished fourth in his heat race on the 3/8-mile oval, positioning him 16th on the grid for the 40-lap main event. He picked up six spots on tough track conditions to record his third consecutive top-10 finish.
After the successful three events, Mitchell sits seventh in the CCSDS standings.
