Hallstrom Faces Challenges Throughout Labor Day Classic at Thunder Road International Speedbowl
Inside Line Promotions – BARRE, Vt. (Sept. 5, 2018) – Evan Hallstrom faced a few challenges throughout the Labor Day Classic at Thunder Road International Speedbowl last Sunday.
Hallstrom competed with the American-Canadian Tour for the second weekend in a row and this time at his home track.
“We started off race day with some practice sessions and just struggled with the setup a little and finding speed,” he said. “We were able to get the car handling better, but the speed still wasn’t there. We had to fight all day to even make it into the race.”
The Hallstrom Motorsports driver started on the inside of the third row in a heat race. Despite a better handling car, he lost ground and finished 10th. That relegated him to the 15-lap Last Chance Race, which he started on the outside of the third row. He advanced one position to finish fifth. Hallstrom received a provisional to start 25th in the feature.
Hallstrom began to pick off positions before bad luck struck around Lap 56. He made an attempt to avoid an on-track incident in front of him. However, he was caught up in the melee and received significant damage to the left front. That ended his night and he was credited with a 25th-place finish.
“Unfortunately we got caught up in an incident early on,” he said. “I lost communication with my spotter and pretty much was racing on my own. I saw the car spin in front of me and I tried to go high to avoid it, but he came back up the track too and we got a piece of it. We decided to park it instead of risking more damage to the car. It’s disappointing that we didn’t get to finish, but that is just part of racing, too. We will regroup and prepare for the next race on the schedule.”
Hallstrom’s next race is tentatively Sept. 28-29 during the Milk Bowl at Thunder Road International Speedbowl, where he will race both a late model and super late model.
