Winger scores second Hunt the Front triumph at Talladega Short Track
Heading to Alabama for the NASCAR weekend, Ashton Winger unloaded his Mathews Motorsports No. 12 at Talladega Short Track (Eastaboga, Ala.) on Friday evening to compete in the Jerry Goodwin Challenge with the Hunt the Front Super Dirt Series.
Among a strong 42-car field, Ashton stopped the clock second-fastest in his qualifying group before dominating his heat race and redrawing the No. 4 in the redraw. With a $5,038 payday on the line, Ashton quickly moved into the runner-up position and slipped by Tyler Millwood on lap 11 for the top spot. Winger led the final 28 circuits to secure his second victory with the series. Winger topped Millwood, Wil Herrington, Ethan Dotson, and Sam Seawright who completed the Top-5.
Looking to sweep the weekend on Saturday, Winger finished second in his heat which placed him the third row for the third-annual Red Farmer Tribute. In the 40-lap feature, Ashton moved into the Top-3 but was unable to make a charge at the leaders. He trailed race-winner Ethan Dotson and Cory Hedgecock while Josh Putnam and Jason Hiett completed the Top-5.
