Ashton Winger sets sights on 2024 Hunt the Front Super Dirt Series championship

Points racing is old hat for Ashton Winger. Following a series relatively close to home, not so much, however. The 24-year-old Hampton, Ga., native will get that chance this season though as he intends on following the Florida-based Hunt the Front Super Dirt Series.

Winger has spent the fare share of his short career touring with both regional and national tours and has enjoyed success with both. After graduating from Crate Late Model racing as the 2018 Crate Racin’ USA Late Model Series champion, Winger jumped aboard the World of Outlaws Case Late Model Series in 2020 and won the national tour’s rookie of the year title while picking up his first career WoO win at prestigious Cedar Lake Speedway in New Richmond, Wis.

Winger parlayed that road success into two successful stints chasing the DIRTcar Summer Nationals. Barnstorming across the Midwest in 2021, Winger picked up six Hell Tour wins — the first Georgian to win on the long-running series — en route to a runner-up finish behind Illinois hot shoe Bobby Pierce in the points race. Proving 2021 was no fluke, Winger returned to the Summer Nationals in 2023 and grabbed six more victories and the series championship.

It was a banner year for Winger, who racked up 16 total victories on six different series. While winning with the DIRTcar Summer Nationals as well as notching his first career Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series feature, Winger also won three Hunt the Front Series features along with wins with the Schaeffer’s Southern Nationals, Comp Cams Super Dirt Series and Crate Racin’ USA Winter Shootout Series.

Two of Wingers’s Hunt the Front Series wins came in his home state at Lavonia Speedway and Swainsboro Raceway, while the other came at Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, Ala., where the series kicks off its second season on March 15-16 with a $5,000-to-win and a $15,000-to-win doubleheader. Winger eventually finished as the winningest driver during the inaugural HTF season.

With the series visiting Talladega four times, Swainsboro twice, and Lavonia and his home track Senoia (Ga.) Raceway once apiece, it makes perfect sense for Winger to chase the tour’s $50,000 championship. A doubleheader at Whynot Motorsports Park in Meridian, Miss., where Winger is a two-time Fall Classic winner is just icing atop the already enticing schedule.

While going for another regional crown, Winger will again rely heavily on his father and crew chief, shock guru Gary Winger ,while piloting a Rocket Chassis owned by veteran racer Jeff Mathews of Riverview, Fla. The team will have help from RVSelect.com, Johnny Doan Plumbing, Keyser, Credit Union Remarketing Solutions, Super K Express and Angry Elephant Tattoo and Piercing.
