Ashton Winger
Winger runner-up in Deep Fried 75 opener; wild wreck in finale at Duck River
Returning to Hunt the Front Super Dirt Series competition after a lengthy summer break, Ashton Winger was one of 34 Super Late Models checked in at Duck River Raceway Park (Shelbyville, Tenn.) for the Deep Fried 75 weekend.
On Friday night, Winger locked himself into the 30-lap main event through qualifying where he would charge from eighth-to-second to score a podium outing. In the $5,000-to-win feature, Ashton trailed race-winner Sam Seawright while Brandon Overton completed the Top-3.
Looking for one spot better in Saturday's $20,000-to-win finale, Winger set fast-time in his qualifying group and picked up a heat race win. Starting on the pole of the 75-lap showdown, Ashton led the first 41 laps before tangling with Dale McDowell while racing for the lead. Winger sustained too much damage from the contact and was forced to pull off the track.
Winger is currently fourth in the HTFSDS point standings.
