UP CLOSE WITH BRAD SMITH
Brad Smith’s interest in racing began at the young age of 4. Following his dad, Tim Smith, who has numerous career wins at the pro level on 3-wheelers and 4-wheelers, Brad had developed a burning desire to follow his dad’s footsteps.
Brad started racing dirt bikes at the age of 4 and moved to racing a stock car at the age of 16. With many race wins and track championships through 1998-2003 in stock cars and IMCA modifieds, he decided to take a break and go back to motocross. In 2006, Brad was involved in an accident that almost ended his career. With his back, neck and wrist broke, we thought his racing career would be done. Brad’s determination and never give up attitude found him back to racing in 2008 with asphalt CRG karts. Picked up a national win his second year but knew the dirt is where he loved to be.
In 2011 Brad found himself piloting his first Open Outlaw Kart for TSS Motorsports. Right from the beginning he begin winning many local races in Texas and decided to start running many of the national races. After his second national race at Got Milk Nationals with a strong 4th, Brad picked up factory support from Straight up Performance with Jim Zimmerman to strengthen his program. 2012 found Brad with RFC Chassis as a Factory Driver and great support from Ryan Foster where he has been since then.
In 2017, Brad has decided to also race a Factor 1 micro 600. He will still be competing at Nationals in the outlaw karts, but wants to pursue his new dream of getting closer to running big sprints.
