Redwood Acres Raceway To Host Second Race Of 2020 This Saturday

Racing will return to Redwood Acres Raceway this weekend on Saturday August 1. It will be the second time in 2020 that the 3/8-mile paved oval will host local stock car races with the season finally beginning on July 11 after the first half of the scheduled season faced cancelation due to the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic.

This weekend’s action is being presented by North Coast Lighting And Electric and will feature all five local divisions of late models, Legends, bombers, mini stocks and roadrunners. Four Star Mini Storage and Vern’s Furniture have come together with North Coast Lighting And Electric to enhance the purses for the late models, Legends and bombers. The Legends will have an additional $1,500 on the line while the bombers and late models will have $1,000 added to their purses. The payout for the Legends and bombers will go as far back as the 15th place finisher depending on the car count while the $1,000 will be distributed amongst the top three finishers.

Sadly, fans will once again not be in attendance on Saturday because of the ongoing pandemic. Redwood Acres Raceway will host a live stream of the event on the track’s Facebook page. Raceway officials did a test stream this past week and are confident that this upcoming event’s video will run more smoothly than the season opener.

David Miller was the big winner in the late models on July 11. The Coquille, Oregon veteran held off a late race surge from Dustin Walters to take the victory. The Legends had a strong turnout for the first race of the year. Their main event also ended in spectacular fashion with Chris Lawrence crossing the line first while his closest competition Chris Sarvinski spun off the final turn in attempt to win the drag race to the finish.

Brett Murrell and Brandon White had spectacular starts to the 2020 season as both broke the track records in qualifying for the mini stocks and bombers respectively and both were able to win their main events. The roadrunner division saw a first-time winner in Jeremiah Martin who dominated the feature event en route to victory. Kadence Toland set the track record for the Bandoleros in qualifying while Kadence Mace won the main event. The division is now on hiatus due to safety concerns.

The racing action will get started Saturday at 3:00 PM. All those who are interested in participating in the August 1 event are highly urged to pre-register for the event. Registration forms can be filled out by going to www.RacinTheAcres.com, going to the rules section and downloading the 2020 registration packet. Again, you can follow the race via the live video stream by visiting Redwood Acres Raceway’s Facebook page and you can follow RAR on Twitter @RacinTheAcres.
