Two-Race Upstate Bombers Challenge Starts Saturday At RAR
Racing returns to Redwood Acres Raceway for the third time in 2020 this Saturday August 15. Local drivers in the roadrunners, mini stocks and Legends will be on track while the late models will have the week off. RAR bomber division regulars will be joining visitors from the Upstate Bomber Series for the series first race in a two-race challenge. The second Upstate event takes place at Ukiah Speedway on September 5. Vern’s Furniture will be presenting the racing action. Once again fans will not be permitted to watch the races in person but they will be presented live via video stream on RAR’s Facebook page.
With the original schedule being drastically cut due the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic, the Upstate Bombers will be holding their first race of the year Saturday. 50 drivers raced in the series in 2019 and the top local talent will be eager to test their mettle against the top bomber racers in the region. The main event winner will earn $1,000 with $600 going to second place and $400 to third. However, to encourage drivers to race both legs of the two-race series, half of the payout will be given after Saturday’s race at the Acres while the other half will be paid when the drivers show up to race at Ukiah Speedway on September 5.
Legends division drivers will once again be going for an increased purse in the main event with $500 on the line for winning. The payout bump will fall as far back as 10th place. Both main events in the division have been thrillers and it should be no different come Saturday.
There are no clear-cut favorites going into the weekend with none of the divisions having back-to-back main event winners. Jeremiah Martin won his first ever main event in the roadrunners in the season opener on July 11 while Bryan Brandt won the most recent race on August 1. Brett Murrell and Jarrett Mayo are the two feature winners so far in the mini stock class. The bomber mains have been won by Brandon White and Loren Powers, Jr. The Legend main events have been claimed by Chris Lawrence and Dane Nissen while the late model winners have been David Miller and Luke Hall.
Redwood Acres Raceway officials would like to stress for participants to register online as soon as possible for this Saturday’s event as soon as possible. Pit race passes can be purchased at https://market.myracepass.com/store/tickets/?i=1215591&store=20226 while driver registration forms can be found on the RacinTheAcres.com website in the rules section.
Again, you can watch the video stream of Saturday’s races on Redwood Acres Raceway’s Facebook page at 3:00 PM. A test and tune will be held on Friday from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM. You can also follow RAR on Twitter @RacinTheAcres.
