Hagar Soaks Up Experience During World of Outlaws Bristol Throwdown

Inside Line Promotions – BRISTOL, Tenn. (April 29, 2021) – Derek Hagar accomplished the two goals he set for the World of Outlaws Bristol Throwdown.

Hagar advanced into the feature both nights and he soaked up the atmosphere as well as the historic experience during the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series return to Bristol Motor Speedway.

“If they have the event again I’d like to race it,” he said. “We had a very good and successful weekend.

“It was a learning experience from the first time we hit the race track until we left. Everything worked out in our favor and we were able to transfer each night into the main event. We made some good, solid laps and learned a lot.”

Hagar qualified 18th quickest to open the action last Friday. A seventh-place finish in a heat race relegated him into the Last Chance Showdown. Hagar placed sixth to transfer into the rear of the main event.

“It’s always tough trying to get through qualifying and the heat race to get to the feature,” he said. “We learned a lot from dirty air and our car setup. It was very demanding as far as physically. I’ve been working out and preparing for this deal so I felt really good.”

Hagar gained five positions in the feature to finish 19th.

Saturday’s event finale was postponed to Sunday afternoon because of wet weather. Hagar timed in 23rd quickest and finished seventh in a heat race. He then advanced from fourth to third place in the Last Chance Showdown to again make the A Main. Hagar capped the event with a 17th-place result.

“It was pretty twitchy, especially when you were behind somebody,” he said. “You had to make sure you kept air on your wings.

“It was pretty much take what you could get on the starts because passing was tough. I will say I was pleased and impressed with everybody racing each other with respect because there was zero room for error.”

Next up will be a race this Saturday at Riverside International Speedway in West Memphis, Ark., during the Spring Fling Special.
