Inside Line Promotions – ROSSBURG, Ohio (Sept. 30, 2021) – Two top 20s wouldn’t normally please Greg Wilson, but last weekend’s results at Eldora Speedway compared to his performance during the Kings Royal this summer showed progress.

The Hercules Tires, Ohio Logistics and DNC Hydraulics backed Seeling Motorsports driver finished 17th during the BeFour the Crowns Showdown on Friday before ending 16th on Saturday at the 4 Crown Nationals.

It was a step forward after Wilson only made one of four World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series main events at the half-mile oval during the marquee event in July.

“We went down there with a little different approach, hoping that we’d be a lot better than July and we were,” he said. “On Friday we raced our way in and was pretty competitive. On Saturday we gambled on some stuff and it really hurt us qualifying and throughout the night. But it was one of those things you had to do it once to be sure and it just wasn’t the right move.”

The weekend started on Friday with Wilson qualifying 27th quickest to open the World of Outlaws show. He then advanced from seventh to sixth place in a heat race, from fourth to second in the Last Chance Showdown and from 22nd to 17th in the A Main.

“With the emphasis on qualifying, especially at an Outlaws show, it’s something we need to continue to improve on,” he said. “We are and have been throwing stuff at it. We’re better than we have been, but still not great. Fortunately we had a really good car in our heat race and got by some guys, which put us in a good position for the Last Chance Showdown. We were really good there and could have won. You don’t put yourself in a bad position. You try to gain some laps to work on your car before the feature-time.

“In the feature there were times I thought we were as high as a 11th-place car, but we faded toward the end. With the things we did to the car we probably needed to make some adjustments and we didn’t because we’ve been good lately.”

Wilson also made progress on Saturday after starting the FloRacing All Star Circuit of Champions event by timing in eighth quickest in his group and 24th overall. He gained two spots to place sixth in a heat race before picking up two more positions in the feature to end 16th.

“It was something with the way the All Star rules are and their format, we took a pretty heavy gamble on tire selection,” he said. “It bit us. And then the track never really cleaned up to where it’d benefit us late in the night. It just didn’t play out that way. We left there knowing that we can do that in certain spots, but definitely not here with the way the tire rule is and what they’ve done to the track.”

Wilson plans to return to action this Saturday at Fremont Speedway in Fremont, Ohio, where he was victorious during his most recent visit.
