Hagar Claims Pair of Fourth-Place Finishes During King of the Wings Event

Inside Line Promotions – BYRAM, Miss. (April 18, 2017) – Derek Hagar captured a pair of fourth-place finishes last weekend during the King of the Wings event at Jackson Motor Speedway, where he has at least one top-five result during each of the last five years.
Hagar opened the ASCS Gulf South Region and ASCS Southern Outlaw Sprints doubleheader on Friday by winning a heat race after starting third. That earned enough points to lock into the feature redraw, in which he pulled the second-highest number – seven – to start the main event seventh.
“We didn’t have a lot of green flag runs,” he said. “It took 45 minutes to get the 25-lap feature over. By the time we’d get in the groove we’d have a caution. We got up to third and had a green-white-checkered finish and Marshall Skinner got by me so we settled for fourth.”
The fourth-place result locked Hagar into the feature redraw for Saturday’s show. This time he pulled the No. 2 to start the main event on the outside of the front row.
“Me and Marshall ran two or three laps side by side for the lead,” he said. “We had a restart and I went to the bottom and got zinged around on the top by Brian Bell. We rode around trying to search. (Tim) Crawley ended up getting by us halfway through the race. We just had a fourth-place car. It was kind of an off night for us.”
Hagar finished fourth for the second straight night. It was his fifth top five of the season.
“It was a good weekend for us,” he said. “People would love to have weekends like that. I wish we could have had better main event results, but we learned some setup stuff that didn’t work that we tried. We’re trying to find that extra edge.”
Hagar is borrowing a 410ci engine from Eric Riggins Jr. to be able to compete this Friday at Riverside International Speedway in West Memphis, Ark., for the Bull Ring Outlaw Blitz with the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series before tackling the POWRi Lucas Oil West Midget Series show on Saturday at I-30 Speedway in Little Rock, Ark., in his midget.
