Inside Line Promotions – THE WOODLANDS, Texas (May 23, 2017) – Tommy Bryant and the SawBlade.com backed Cooper Motorsports team heads into the 15th annual Memorial Day Classic this weekend with a ton of confidence.
Bryant has had a terrific start to the season and the team will compete at three tracks they are very familiar with during the ASCS Gulf South Region tripleheader.
“We took a couple of weeks off from racing and got everything ready to go,” he said. “I’m excited to get back on the track. Brad (Benic) has the setup on this car perfect. His knowledge and input are invaluable. He’s taught us so much. The last two wins we’ve had he hasn’t been there, but every bit was his setup. I didn’t change a thing on the car. Heck, we didn’t touch a shock or weight bolt from the heat to the feature.”
The Cooper Motorsports team will travel to RPM Speedway in Crandall, Texas, this Friday to open the weekend. Bryant describes RPM as “one of the smallest tracks” he competes on.
“Our best effort at RPM was a second in 2009,” he said. “Last year we got rained out.”
The SawBlade.com sponsored team will go from the smallest to one of the biggest tracks they will compete on this season when they race at the half-mile Devil’s Bowl Speedway in Mesquite, Texas, on Saturday. Bryant drove from 18th to an 11th-place finish there last year.
“I should have a win at Devil’s Bowl,” he said. “One year I led every lap and a lapped car juked when it should have jived and I got into him and finished third. Devil’s Bowl is so luck oriented from the pill draw to no mishaps in your heat to no mistakes in the feature. It’s tough to put a whole night together there.”
The weekend concludes on Sunday at Lone Star Speedway in Kilgore, Texas. Last year Bryant charged from the 13th starting spot to a fifth-place finish.
“We had some mechanical issues in our heat at Lone Star last year, but the car was great in the feature,” he said. “It’s also where I had my hardest crash back in 2013. I blew a right rear tire going into turn one and hit the fence and the car cart wheeled like 30 feet into the air. That one hurt.”
Bryant enters this weekend ranked fifth in the ASCS Gulf South Region championship standings despite skipping multiple races this season.
