UMSS Honors Top Drivers At Banquet
The Upper Midwest Sprint Car Series recently honored the top drivers from the 2014 racing season at their annual awards banquet held at the Hampton Inn in Shoreview, Minnesota. The largest turnout yet filled the banquet room to capacity. A great time was had by all, and featured guest speaker Tom Savage did an outstanding job of entertaining the crowd with various racing stories.
Pictured in this photo are the top five drivers in the 2014 Traditional Sprint Car Series non-winged sprint car division point standings. From left to right is third place finisher Mike Mueller of Stacy, series Champion Cam Schafer of Clearbrook, second place finisher and previous champion Rob Caho, Jr. of Wyoming, fourth place finisher and Rookie of the Year Chase Viebrock of New Richmond, WI, and fifth place finisher Jake Kouba of Minneapolis. GRP Motorsports provided trophies and point fund checks for the top five drivers in the point standings and the top rookie. The point championship was determined by taking the top 20 races out of 21 shows.
In 21 events, the UMSS Traditional sprints had six different drivers win feature races in 2014. The weather claimed seven events. The leading UMSS Traditional sprint feature winner was series champion Cam Schafer with seven wins. 2012-13 champion Rob Caho, Jr. won five times for a series leading 20 career victories. In just his second year behind the wheel of a Traditional sprint, Mike Mueller picked up four wins. Like the winged division, the Traditional sprints also had an impressive rookie contender with young Chase Viebrock earning three victories. Jake Kouba, in his second year of non-winged racing, got his first career feature win. Jake's cousin Joseph Kouba of North Branch also picked up one win.
