2015 UMSS Spring Newsletter

UMSS Drivers and Teams,
The 2015 race season is fast approaching. All of us with the UMSS are looking forward to seeing all of you soon. The following are some highlights I want to point out in the newsletter in preparation for the upcoming season.

SCHEDULE
The wing and traditional schedules are in PDf format and can be printed from the UMSS website in the Rules/Forms section at the following links. http://winged.umsprints.com/downloads/get.aspx?i=249808 http://winged.umsprints.com/downloads/get.aspx?i=247165

The schedules include new tracks and some date changes. The micro sprint schedule is available at http://micro.umsprints.com/schedule/. Please take special note of the Midwest Power Outlaw Sprint Car Series, the Summer Heat Outlaw Sprint Tour, and the Kouba Memorials. We have some very exciting racing action in store for 2015.

LICENSE FEES
License fees will be $130 for $100,000 of excess participant accident coverage, and $50 without the insurance. These fees cover the whole year and all three divisions. Before you can participate, you must pay your license fee and fill out all paperwork. You can download the paperwork from UMSS website in the Rules/Forms section at the following link.

ELECTRONIC SCORING
The UMSS will begin using electronic scoring (My Laps) for the wing and traditional series at tracks that have it available starting in June (including St. Croix Valley Raceway). If you would like a rechargeable transponder for $389 with a five-year subscription, send a check payable to UMSS to: 2700 420th Street, Harris, MN 55032 by May 15.

RULES
All participants in the wing and traditional sprint car series are encouraged to go through their respective rules as there have been some changes. Remember, you are responsible for knowing and following all UMSS rules. There are no rule changes for the micro sprints. Rules are available at www.umsprints.com.

TECHNICAL INFORMATION
The UMSS has purchased additional tools/equipment to improve our technical inspections. Please check the rules under Penalties and Sanctions for what will happen if you are caught cheating or with illegal parts. If you have any questions, call Joe Kouba at 612-751-4646. UMSS Head Tech Official John Morris will be at most of the races. Assistant UMSS Tech Official Terry Galle will be at several races as his schedule permits.

If the weather allows, there will be a UMSS tech session at SCVR on May 1 during the evening’s events which will include practice time. The following night, the UMSS wing cars are at Cedar Lake Speedway for their first event.

BEHAVIOR
Disrespectful behavior will not be tolerated. Again, go through the rules as there are new rules pertaining to behavior detrimental to the sport.

TRADITIONAL SPRINT CAR PROCEDURES
Procedures will remain mostly the same: heats and features. As preparation for the switch over to Challenge Races full time in 2016, there will be at least 3 and as many as 5 nights of Challenge Races this year: July 17 at SCVR, July 23 at Red Cedar, and September 11 at SCVR. In addition, the feature for the Open Wheel Nationals on August 28 will be 40 laps.

START/RESTART LINEUP CORRECTIONS
A. Prior to initial green flag:
Lineup: Cars will be criss-crossed from open position on back.
Passing/Finishing Point Scoring: Cars will be scored from the revised line-up positions, to accurately adjust passing point calculations.
B. After initial green flag:
Lineup: Cars will be criss-crossed from open position on back.
Passing/Finishing Point Scoring: No passing point adjustments will be made for subsequent changes in starting positions for complete restarts. Once the initial green flag has flown, your starting spot is locked as far as passing/finishing points are concerned.

COPYRIGHT AND TRADEMARK
The UMSS has been granted copyright protection for the Traditional Sprint Car engine rules. In addition, we are in the process of trademarking our name and logo. This will legally protect the UMSS from anyone who attempts to put on a Traditional Sprint Car show, with our rules, from doing so without UMSS sanction or permission.

Please share this information with any teams/drivers that are new or may not get this. This will also be posted on the UMSS website and Facebook page.

Thank you,
Ron Bernhagen, UMSS CDO
