Caho Is King At Tabor Memorial Traditional Non-wing

Rob Caho, Jr. of Wyoming, Minnesota is familiar with the UMSS Traditional Sprint Car Series RockAuto.com Victory Lane, having won two championships and 20 feature races in the process. Caho captured his 21st career TSCS victory on Friday night May 22 at the St. Croix Valley Raceway, but this would be his first Tabor Memorial title in four attempts. Caho led all the way in the 25 lap nonstop feature race and picked up the $434 first place prize. His win also gave him a shot at the GRP Clean Sweep Bonus the following night in Rice Lake.

Mike Walters and Jake Kouba (last lap pass) won the heats, and Jake drew the pole starting spot for the feature. To his outside though was Caho. Caho blasted to the lead at the drop of the green running up on the cushion. Jake Kouba stayed close throughout the race, but he just could not mount a serious bid for the top spot. Caho stated afterwards, "I heard Jake on several laps, so I knew he was right behind me. One time I saw him down under me in turn two, so I knew it was time to dial it up a notch." Jake's dad Jimmy Kouba settled into third behind his son. The running order in the top three stayed the same to the checkers. Neal Matuska raced his way forward from his eighth starting spot to finish fourth. Winged driver Sye Anderson, driving a non-winged sprint owned by Jim Goerges, had a solid performance during the night and finished fifth.

The season and series debut for young James "Nitro" Giossi was a tough one, as he contacted the turn four wall in his heat race, did a nose stand, but he managed to land upright. His car sustained some serious front end damage and was done for the night though. The team headed back to New Richmond to make repairs in order to see if they could be ready for Rice Lake the next night (they were). Fellow New Richmond racer Chase Viebrock was not able to compete when his car failed to pass pre-race tech inspection.
