Jimmy Kouba Picks Up Where He Left Off

With a couple of rain-outs and some planned time off in the month of June, it had been about a month since the UMSS Traditional Sprint Car Series had raced. The longer than expected layoff did not phase Jimmy Kouba, as he picked up right where he left off, that is in Rock Auto Victory Lane. Kouba had won back on May 28 at Eagle Valley, and on Friday night June 30 the veteran driver kept his streak intact when he led all the way at the Red Cedar Speedway. Jimmy's son Jake had defeated his dad at Red Cedar on May 26, so it was time for dad to return the favor and finish first. Jake finished second making it a perfect reverse of their finishing positions a month earlier. Some rain delayed the start of the racing program for over an hour, but the weather cooperated and the track crew managed to prepare the racing surface in order for racing action to take place.

A decent field of fifteen Traditional sprints were on hand to kick off a double header racing weekend in western Wisconsin. Two heat races were run with Mike Mueller and Jake Kouba picking up the wins. Jimmy Kouba and Mueller drew the front row for the feature. Given the late start and pending curfew, the feature race was reduced to 20 laps instead of the usual 25 lap distance. Jimmy Kouba took the lead, a lead he would never relinquish on his way to his third Traditional sprint car feature win of the season and his 11th career TSCS triumph. On several occasions, Jake Kouba challenged his dad for the top spot but eventually had to settle for the runner-up position in the nonstop main event. Mueller rode home in third ahead of Anna Hippe and Jon Lewerer. Ty Sampair came from 11th to finish sixth. Joseph Kouba, Bryan Roach, Scott Brandt and Blake Anderson completed the top ten.

The Traditional sprints then headed for the Cedar Lake Speedway the following night in order to complete their two-race weekend. Keep tabs on all of the UMSS Traditional sprint car action by visiting our website at www.umsprints.com and clicking on the blue logo or by following us on Facebook.
