"Sponsor Spotlight: Winters Performance"
For this month’s “Sponsor Spotlight”, we are going to introduce you to our newest sponsor-Winters Performance.
Winters Performance originally began life as Winters Transmissions, as founder Vaughn Winter, Sr. began doing customization and performance upgrades to stock automotive transmissions. It is a well-know legend that the company actually started with said work being performed on the family’s kitchen table. After being discharged from the Air Force, the Winters brand was moved back to their hometown of York, Pennsylvania, where the company still thrives today.
Winters revolutionized sprint car rearends in 1982, with the incorporation of tapered roller bearings in place of the traditional ball bearings utilized in the Halibrand rearends, their main competitor. This new concept enabled the bearings to sustain more lateral load, extending the lifespan of the rearends before being rebuilt. Since introducing this revolutionary concept, Winters continued to innovate and redefine the world of rear axle technology in sprint car racing. Many of the components and improvements teams rely on today stem from advancements Winters has made, such as aluminum axles, internal engagement couplers and center-section mounted brake calipers, just to name a few.
Today, Winters makes some of the most popular rearend assemblies and racing components on the market. You will find them in virtually all forms of motorsports, from sprint cars to NASCAR to the world of drag racing.
Tiffany Wyzard Motorsports has relied on Winters rearend assemblies since it’s move to sprint cars in 2005. They have continued to give us a dependable, long–lasting rearend, while maintaining an ever-critical lightweight profile.
