Inside Line Promotions – JOLIET, Ill. (Sept. 14, 2017) – Kevin Swindell Racing was in contention to win all three races during the last week.

The Swindell Speed Lab backed team competed last Friday at Jacksonville Speedway in Jacksonville, Ill., where driver Spencer Bayston qualified seventh quickest before he maneuvered from fourth to win a MOWA Series heat race. The feature inversion lined him up on the pole for the main event.

“We were really good and I was out cruising,” he said. “I just made a simple driver mistake. I got tight on entry. The cushion was on the wall in turns three and four. I straightened it out and tried to get the car to come back down. It pushed up with all the momentum. I tagged the wall with the right rear tire and it cut it down. That ended our night early. We lost a win from my mistake. I felt terrible about that.”

Bayston led the majority of the race prior to the late-race incident, which resulted in a 17th-place result following the DNF.

The team ventured to Spoon River Speedway in Canton, Ill., where Bayston set quick time during MOWA Series qualifying on Saturday. He then charged from sixth to win a heat race before lining up fourth in the main event.

“The track laid rubber pretty early,” Swindell said. “It was just ice for four or five laps and then rubber. They rode in line. There wasn’t a lot you could do.”

Bayston competed in the top five throughout the race before ending fourth.

He returned to action Wednesday at the Dirt Oval at Route 66 with the IRA Sprint Car Series. Bayston timed in third quickest during qualifying before rallying from third to win a heat race. That earned a spot in the feature redraw.

“We drew the No. 5 and (Ian) Madsen and (Bill) Balog drew the front row,” Swindell said. “The top was so sandy. If you got close to anyone on the top you’d lose air and get tight. Whenever you’d get within three car lengths of a guy you’d lose air, give it back and start over again.”

Bayston advanced to third before he finished with a fourth-place result for the second straight race.

“We were really, really good off the trailer,” he said. “The car had great speed. I was able to work the bottom in turns one and two better than most guys on the start and restarts. As soon as we got spread out on green flag runs what I was able to do on the starts wasn’t as strong under green.”
