Spring Nationals brings 2017 MLRA campaign to life

By Trenton Berry, Lucas Oil MLRA PR (Wheatland, MO) -- After losing the I-80 Speedway weekend due to bad weather, the Lucas Oil MLRA will make its highly anticipated season debut, this weekend, with the 4th Annual Spring Nationals Presented by RacinJunk.com at the series home track, Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, Missouri. The event features complete shows both Friday and Saturday evening.

"I'm just ready to get our season going already," commented Assistant Series Director Ernie Leftwich. "It always seems like everybody is really anxious to get racing once April gets here. We'll all be just a little more ready for the Late Models to hit the track, with the rainout a couple weeks back."

There will be a new format for qualifying this weekend. Every driver will draw for their respective heat race, like normal, then they will time in against the other cars in their heat, during hot laps. It will be a heads up start in the heats based on time. Also, the tire rule has been simplified over previous seasons, with Hoosier WRS 55's and LM 40's as the only options. The right rear tire is also not allowed to be grooved or siped.

Friday features a $2,000 to win main event and Saturday pays $3,000 to the first across the finish line. Last weekend the speedway opened their season with 125 cars on their opening weekend. The Pitts Homes USRA Modifieds and Big O Tires Street Stocks will also be on the card each night.

"We had a great opening weekend at the speedway last Saturday," said Lucas Oil Speedway General Manager and MLRA Series Director Dan Robinson. "There is a little more banking exiting the turns, especially turn two, and it raced well last weekend. I'm excited to see how the racing plays out this weekend with a great field of MLRA cars on it. We're excited to see all of the outstanding Late Model fans this weekend."

Last season Billy Moyer and Brian Shirley took wins in the two Spring Nationals features.

The pair of shows is also the only time for Super Late Model teams to get track time, ahead of the 25th Annual Lucas Oil Show Me 100 Presented by ProtectTheHarvest.com. Dirt Late Model's first crown jewel of the season takes place over Memorial Day weekend.
