Dale Atwood to serve as Grand Marshall at Ponderosa Speedway Friday August 1

JUNCTION CITY, KENTUCKY (July 30, 2025)—Hall of Famer and former veteran racer Dale Atwood of Liberty, Ky. will serve as the Grand Marshall this Friday August 1 during the Red Clay Bash at Ponderosa Speedway in Junction City, Ky. One of the all-time winningest drivers in track history will wave the green flag to start the 30-lap feature event for the Super Late Models.

Atwood, a resident of Casey County and longtime driver of the Jimmy Cundiff special which Cundiff built himself, those two paired to collect tons of victories all over south-central Kentucky including multiple wins at Ponderosa Speedway and the track located in Burnside, Ky. Atwood was most unbeatable in the mid-1980’s in the Late Model Sportsman class. On several nights Atwood would set fast time in both Late Model divisions and occasionally win both feature events. Atwood amassed over 200 feature victories before retiring from racing in the early 2000’s. Atwood was inducted into the Class of 2021 for the South-Central Kentucky Dirt Racing Hall of Fame. He is currently a voting Board Member of the Hall of Fame as well.

This Friday’s event features a triple-sanction of action with the Valvoline American Late Model Iron-Man Series, the Ultimate Heart of America Super Late Model Series & the Battle of the Bluegrass DIRTcar Series battling for $5,000-to-win. Also in action will be the Crate Late Models, Modifieds, Crown Vics and Front Wheel Drives. A fireworks show will also light up the evening sky.
