Sullivan Masters Maquoketa

Maquoketa, IA (July 1st, 2024) - Thursday night Ryan Sullivan stayed up until 1:00am working on his car, not because it had damage or because he needed to, but because he wanted to. Sullivan had come close this season to the win with a second and a fifth place to his name so far, but felt he was just that little bit off. He called up Jackson Lewis for help and boy did it pay off. Sullivan went to Maquoketa Speedway and showed up the field to pick up his first Midwest Legends Dirt Series Presented by Legends.Direct win of the season.

A doubleheader weekend that got cut short due to rain on the first night at Lafayette County Speedway, the field of legends made the trip to Maquoketa Speedway on Saturday night for the first Iowa race of the season. 30 cars found themselves in the pits for the action, the highest car count of the 8 classes racing. Championship leader Jackson Lewis was in attendance in an attempt to pick up another MLDS and Maquoketa win, as well Michael Weber who picked up the win earlier in June. Other drivers included feature winner Jordan Miklas as well as his Watertown War Wagon teammate Charlie Spoonmore, Hayden Schmuhl, a whole heap of Legends.Direct cars, Maquoketa points leader Jeff Schmidt, and many more drivers attended.

The night started out with heat races. Hayden Schmuhl picked up the first heat with Adam Zellmer and Colton Utley the podium. Jordan Miklas was on top of heat two with Michael Weber and Jeff Schmidt second and third. Jackson Lewis took the win in the third heat while Ryan Sullivan took second and Charlie Spoonmore took third. Brady Ascherien won the final heat with Robby Morrison and Lilly Fassbender taking home second and third.

The 10 car B-Main pulled onto the track next. Cal Swenson started from the pole with Keith Meyer second. Throughout the race, the top two swapped the spot ending with Meyer picking up the win and Swenson second. Adam Reed and Dallas Kibbe joined them in transferring into the A-Main.

The 24 car A-main worked onto the track ready to do battle. Ryan Sullivan started from the pole with Iowa native Colton Utley on his outside. Sullivan went on to lead all 20 laps of the feature and pick up his first feature win of the season. Michael Weber came home second on the night after working his way patiently through the top five. Championship leader Jackson Lewis had to work his way from his 8th starting all the way up to 3rd, finishing only 0.02 seconds behind Weber at the line. Hayden Schmuhl came home fourth with Adam Zellmer rounding out the top 5. 3 drivers tied for hard-charger, with Dallas Ross, Dylan Manning, and Keith Meyer all up +7 positions from where they started.

“Was so happy to see Ryan Sullivan pick up his first win in a long time. Us staying up till 1:00am on Thursday night paid off.” Jackson Lewis said post-race, commenting on Sullivan picking up the win. Sullivan was elated that he was able to “Bring home some hardware from Maquoketa”

After picking up the win, Ryan Sullivan was awarded an Aero Race Wheel Buy-1-Get-1 Rim certificate as well as 25% off a full suit fit thanks to Rush RaceGear. Dallas Ross was the other lucky winner being the highest finishing hard-charger, he was given $100 off any Rush RaceGear order as well as $25 thanks to SunSet Auto.

The Midwest Legends Dirt Series Presented by Legends.Direct returns on July 10th at Beaver Dam Raceway. It will be the makeup date for the rained out second night of the World Of Outlaws night.
