Inside Line Promotions – MARION, Ark. (Oct. 10, 2017) – Derek Hagar has won a lot of big races during his career, but there is one marquee event at his home track that has evaded him.

Hagar badly wants to win the Short Track Nationals hosted by I-30 Speedway in Little Rock, Ark. The 30th edition of the ASCS Mid-South Region event runs this Thursday through Saturday.

“I’m open minded,” he said. “We’ve had good runs every time we’ve been there this year. The race track fits our driving style. I’m really excited to see what’s going to happen. I feel we have a very good opportunity to pull off the win.”

Hagar has one victory, two runner-up results and a fourth-place finish during four winged sprint car starts at the oval this year.

“It’s one of those deals it weighs on you,” he said. “You’re a local and expected to do good. All the anticipation that leads up to Saturday’s event, it builds up a lot. Guys are expecting you to do good because it’s your home race track and your home crowd. I know we can do it, but we have to have luck on our side. You have to be on top of your game and luck has to be on your side.”

Hagar has made the Saturday A Main four times and he posted his career-best result during the event last year when he finished eighth.

Last Saturday’s USCS Series event at Talladega Short Track in Eastaboga, Ala., was postponed to Oct. 28 because of weather. It will now mark Hagar’s sprint car season finale.
