Payton Freeman Second with SAS at Smoky Mountain
Smoky Mountain Speedway's King of the Mountain event on Saturday evening brought Payton Freeman to Tennessee. The Southern All Star (SAS) Dirt Racing Series event drew a field of 22 competitors, Payton started the night by setting fast time over the field in qualifications with a 15.703-second lap.
He started second in the main event, and raced in a podium position throughout the $7,500-to-win finale before crossing the finish line behind Dale McDowell with Eli Beets, Zack Mitchell, and Sam Seawright completing the Top-5 finishers.
His finish allowed him to extend his advantage atop the series standings and the Cruise with the Champions Rookie of the Year battle.
