On The Money: Mat Williamson Earns STSS Can-Am Monday Victory

LAFARGEVILLE, NY – On the money.

On Monday night at Can-Am Speedway, Money Mat’ Williamson cashed in with a $5,051 payday in the Bob Hilbert Sportswear Short Track Super Series (STSS) Fueled By Sunoco debut.

Can-Am Speedway became the 37th different to host a Modified series event.
Williamson, of Saint Catharines, Ont., dominated the second half of ‘The
Gloves Are Off 51’ for the HYTORC of New York STSS Modified North Region driving a self-owned No. 6.

Williamson cleared Jack Lehner for the lead prior to the halfway point and drove on to his eighth career STSS checkered flag.

Fifth-starter Tim Fuller of Edwards, N.Y., drove to a runner-up finish worth $3,000 on his Friday night home turf.

Ontario’s Chris Raabe marched forward from seventh starting position to complete the podium.

Pole starter Zach Payne of Stanley, N.Y., finished fourth and Matt Sheppard of Savannah, N.Y., recovering from a mid-race pit stop.

Finishing sixth through 10th, respectively, were Quebec’s Felix Roy, 11th-starter Jackson Gill in a rare STSS appearance; first half leader Lehner of Saratoga Springs, N.Y.; Saint Damase, Quebec’s David Hebert; and Goshen, N.Y.’s Daniel Morgiewicz Jr.

Sheppard was the ATL Fuel Cells Hot Lap Hero at 19.352 seconds.

Heat winners were Sheppard, Alex Yankowski and Williamson.

Donovan Lussier earned his second career STSS Sportsman victory in the 25-lap Madsen Overhead Doors Inc. North Region event worth $1,551. Lussier previously won at N.J.’s Bridgeport Motorsports Park in March.

Lussier started the event from the outside pole.

Fourth-starter Cedric Gauvreau finished second, ahead of Lake Ariel, Pa.’s Tyler Peet, who started eighth, Gavin Eisele, who started sixth and Walton, N.Y.’s Blaine Klinger, up from 13th.

Taylor Doxtater earned the JLR Technologies Hot Lap Hero with a lap of 19.632 seconds.

Peet, Lussier and Gavin Eisele were the heat winners.

Racing continues tonight at Mohawk International Raceway with the ‘Summer Showdown on the Border’ featuring the STSS Modifieds in a $10,000-to-win, 50-lap HYTORC of New York North Region event and STSS Sportsman competing for $2,000 to win in a 35-lap feature for the Madsen Overhead Doors Inc. North Region.
