Butcher Holds Off Majeski to Win 53rd Winchester 400

(Winchester, IN) – Casey Roderick and Gio Ruggiero led the field to green on Sunday October 13th for the 53rd running of the Winchester 400 presented by Vore’s Welding and Steel. Roderick would get the advantage and take the lead early in the long 400 lap event. Roderick would continue to lead until lap 45 when Ty Majeski would take the lead. Majeski got out front and set the pace and led until lap 133 when a competition caution was thrown. Several teams came in during this controlled pit cycle. On the restart Chase Pinsonneault would get the jump after electing to stay on track and not pit. Pinsonneault would lead from lap 134 until lap 142 when the caution would come out as the big one would occur in turn 1. When the race resumed Majeski would go on to win stage 1.

At the start of stage 2 Butcher would get the advantage and lead for one lap before Majeski would take the lead back. Majeski would go on to lead until lap 287. Ruggiero who was running top 5 all day so far in the event would take the lead and win stage 2. Ruggiero would continue to lead until lap 340 when his day would end early with an engine failure. Butcher took over the lead and never looked back. Majeski was working his way back through the field after he and Austin Nason were involved in a yellow. Majeski would make his way up to second and challenge Butcher multiple times but in the end it was Canada’s Cole Butcher taking home the $20,000 payday and the coveted Winchester 400 Rifle Trophy. Majeski would finish 2nd with Kyle Steckly 3rd, Pinsonneault 4th and Roderick 5th. It was survival of the fittest in the grueling 400 lap event.
