Cain becomes first two-time Mod Nats Winner at Ogilvie

Ogilvie, MN (May 27th, 2018) – Corcoran, MN WISSOTA Modified veteran Dave Cain etched his name in stone as the first two-time Mod Nationals winner by taking Saturday night’s $10,000 to win A-main at Ogilvie Raceway. Dustin Holtquist remained perfect on the season in the WISSOTA Mod Four division while Brittany Smith outlasted her brother to win the WISSOTA Hornet finale. In WISSOTA Modified action it was Kevin “Buzzy” Adams taking top billing after a race long battle with Lakeshore’s Dan Ebert.

Jake Smith took the lead early in the WISSOTA Hornet finale. Smith was right at home out front during the first few laps before his sister Brittany came calling. The duo battle side by side for the lead for the better part of three laps before Brittany would seize the advantage. Back in traffic the #99 of Nate Servaty was making moves. With a maneuverable car underneath, Servaty charged from his 15th starting spot to finish fourth at the line. In the end it was all Brittany Smith scoring the win. Jake Smith, Paul George, Servaty and Hunter McDougall all took home top five runs, as well.

The story early in the season for the WISSOTA Mod Fours has been the dominance of Dustin Holtquist. Holtquist, the long-time South Dakota native (who now calls St. Joseph, MN home), continued his dominance Sunday night charging from his eighth starting position to remain perfect on the season. Defending WISSOTA Mod Four National Champion Dean Larson settled for a hard fought second place finish just ahead of Dustin’s father, Bob Holtquist. Polesitter Adam Prieve and 10th starting Doug Frederick were each members of the top five finishing order for the Mod Fours, who drew 10 entries. Tyler Larson and Justin Pogones each corralled heat race wins earlier in the program.

Adams got the jump on the fellow row one starter Tony Schill and was scored the leader at the end of the first lap during the WISSOTA Modified headliner. Adams worked his #40 machine around the top side of the speedway with great ease early on while fourth starter Landon Atkinson ran second. Near the midway point of the race, however, Dan Ebert came to call. Ebert twisted and contorted his #60 machine around the extreme top side of the speedway drawing closer to Adams with each passing circuit. With seven laps remaining Ebert had successfully tracked down Adams. The duo traded slide jobs while racing side by for the better part of five laps before Adams seized control taking the white flag. Out front it was Adams leading every single lap on his way to a $2,500 victory. Ebert turned in a tremendous effort coming home second ahead of Atkinson, Shane Sabraski and 14th starting Dave Cain.

On the strength of being number one in passing points after two heat races Friday, Justin Froemming would bring the field to green from his pole position in the 50-lap WISSOTA Midwest Modified headliner. Despite heavy pressure from Cain, Froemming was scored the leader after the first circuit was completed. Cain, however, looked strong seizing control from the #33x on lap two. Froemming and Tony Bahr were left to battle for the second spot while Cain stretched his advantage out front. The car on the move from the get go was the #EZ1 of Shane Sabraski. While most cars worked the inside of the speedway Sabraski worked right up near the fence disposing of a lot of fellow competitors with the help of the cushion. When it was all said and done Sabraski moved up 15 positions during the 50-lap affair finishing in second. In one of the most dominating performances you’ll ever see Cain would score the win with a jaw-dropping 13.5 advantage. Sabraski would finish second with Bahr third, Jeffrey Lien Jr fourth and 20th starter Jeremy Nelson in fifth. Froemming finished second initially but was disqualified after the race during post-race inspection.
