Sooner Late Models visit Red Dirt Raceway on Friday
By John Rittenoure (Meeker, OK) -- Jay Sale will have the opportunity to pick up a second straight victory when the Sooner Late Model Series invades the newly remodeled Red Dirt Raceway on Friday.
Cody Brewer purchased the former Brill’s Motor Speedway from owner and SLMS promoter Mark Brill last year and renamed and renovated the speedway from top to bottom. The track was shortened to a quarter-mile, the pit area has been enlarged and new grandstands highlight the spectator area. A new fan friendly fun zone outside turns 1-2 provides an area where you can tailgate and watch the races from your car or motorhome.
Last Friday the Sooner Late Model Series opened the 2017 season at Creek County Speedway and Sale made the best of his outside front row starting position to capture his third SLMS career victory. Veteran David Hennan settled for a second place finish after starting on the pole. Logan Ellis, Dillon Rupe and Steven Hawkins finished third through fifth after battling for position.
Gates at Red Dirt Raceway will open at 5 p.m. with grandstands opening at 6. Drivers meeting is 6:15 followed by wheel pack at 6:45 and races at 7:30.
Red Dirt Raceway is located on Oklahoma state highway 18 between Shawnee and Chandler.
